Treatment of Pionic Modes at the Nuclear Surface for Transport Descriptions
نویسندگان
چکیده
Dispersion relations and amplitudes of collective pionic modes are derived in a π + NN + ∆N model for use in transport descriptions by means of a local density approximation. It is discussed how pionic modes can be converted to real particles when penetrating the nuclear surface and how earlier treatments can be improved. When the surface is stationary only free pions emerge. The time-dependent situation is also addressed, as is the conversion of non-physical (i.e. unperturbed ∆N) modes to real particles when the nuclear density vanishes. A simplified one-dimensional scenario is used to investigate the reflection and transmission of pionic modes at the nuclear surface. It is found that reflection of pionic modes is rather unlikely, but the process can be incorporated into transport descriptions by the use of approximate local transmission coefficients. ∗This work was supported by the Swedish Natural Science Research Council and by the Director, Office of Energy Research, Office of High Energy and Nuclear Physics, Nuclear Physics Division of the U.S. Department of Energy under Contract No. DE-AC0376SF00098.

متن کاملMedium Modification of the Pion-pion Interaction at Finite Density
We discuss medium modifications of the unitarized pion-pion interaction in the nuclear medium. We incorporate both the effects of chiral symmetry restoration and the influence of collective nuclear pionic modes originating from the p-wave coupling of the pion to delta-hole configurations. We show in particular that the dropping of the sigma meson mass significantly enhances the low energy struc...

This article reports the effects of various artificial aging methods and lubrication modes (dry, mist, wet) on the recorded cutting forces and chip morphology in drilling Al-Si-Mg (A356) cast alloys. In the course of this work, the work part sampled were as-received alloy (T0), solution heat-treated alloy (SHT) and then aged alloys at 155°C, 180°C, and 220°C (T4, T6, T61, T7), respectively. The...
متن کاملDeeply Bound Pionic States and the Effective Pion Mass in Nuclear Systems *
We show that the s-wave pion-nuclear potential which reproduces the deeply bound pionic states in Pb, recently discovered at GSI, is remarkably close to the one constructed directly from low energy theorems based on chiral symmetry. Converting this information into an effective pion mass we find m ⋆ π /m π ≃ 1.13 in the center of the Pb nucleus, and m ⋆ π /m π ≃ 1.07 in symmetric nuclear matter...
